Conceived in close collaboration with the artist, the you & me exhibition brings together a collection of works by Susana Mendes Silva (Lisbon, 1972) from the Serralves Collection and works from the artist’s own collection, spanning from the 1990s to the present.
Susana Mendes Silva’s practice revolves around drawing, performance, archival work, and above all, encounters — with the public, with space, with history, and with her peers. Starting from the relational dimension of her work, this exhibition goes beyond the conventional definition of an individual exhibition and presents the work of Susana Mendes Silva in dialogue with the work of Portuguese and international artists who stand out as important references in her creative and affective universe. In this context, works by Alice Geirinhas, Ana Hatherly, Dara Birnbaum, Lucia Nogueira, Hannah Wilke, Maria José Aguiar, and Yoko Ono are presented.
Curated by Joana Valsassina, this exhibition is part of the Itinerant Exhibitions Program of the Serralves Collection, which aims to make the Foundation’s collection accessible to diverse audiences from all regions of the country.
