Susana Gaudêncio, graduated in Painting from Universidade de Lisboa and holds an MFA from Hunter College, in NYC (CUNY). In her practice she creates intricate drawings, photo-montages and animations, made by altering found footage and imagery. This involves a cyclical transformation, addressing the tensions between political reality, utopia and expressive illusion. She is a PHD researcher at Universidade de Lisboa, working on “The Utopian Impulse in Contemporary Art practice”. She has shown her work at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, and Electricity Museum in Lisbon; Centro de Artes Visuais (CAV) in Coimbra; the Liverpool Biennial; the ISE Foundation in NYC, etc. Gaudêncio coordinates the Lisbon Architecture Triennale’s Education Program. She teaches at the School of Art and Design, in Caldas da Rainha, lecturing in the MFA Programme.
