Ricardo Valentim studied Fine Arts at Ar.Co in Lisbon. Between 2004 and 2006 took an MFA in Sculpture at the School of Visual Arts in New York, and between 1999 and 2003 took a BA in Anthropology at ULHT in Lisbon.

He works on a variety of media, including radio, printed materials, photography and sculpture. Since 2006 produces graphic materials, incluin posters, brochures and more, in addition to his lectures and vídeo works. This process reveals the transformation from immateriality of these componentes to a materialized form, as being printed as a graphic material.

He has exhibited regularly since the early 2000s, with solo and group exhibitions. One of his most recent solo exhibitions are Ricardo Valentim / Rita Sobral, at Sala do Veado in MNHN in Lisbon (2002); Ricardo Valentim, in Schuster Gallery in Frankfurt (2003); More “Primitive” Forms at Centro de Artes Visuais in Coimbra (2004) Film Festival at Pedro Cera Gallery in Lisbon (2006); Lecture n.1 (Lectures on Light), at Legion in New York (2006); Film Festival in E-flux in New York (2007); Ricardo Valentim, at Pedro Cera Gallery in Lisbon (2008). He also participated in projects, such as Art statments for Art Basel 38 (2007), Art Premiere in collaboration with Pedro Barateiro, Art 39 Basel (2008); Exhibition * 04 BES Space Art and Finance (2009); Growth and Culture for the Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art Foundation (2012), among many others.

He won the Heineken Award CA20 ARCO, Madrid (2011), Award Rema Hort Mann Foundation in New York (2010), Sommerakademie Prize in Bern and the Prize Ron Brugal Emerging Artists ARCO, Madrid (2008).

His work is represented in several collections, national and international such as the Serralves Foundation (Porto), PLMJ Foundation (Lisbon), Ilídio Pinho Foundation (Porto), Helga de Alvear Collection and Frac Ile-de-France-Le Plateau.
