Paulo Robalo was born in 1965 in Lisbon, where he lives and works.
He graduated in Painting from the Lisbon School of Fine Arts (Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa) and exhibited his work regularly until the mid-90s.
He then changed his creative direction to work in Contemporary Scenic Design, developing a fusion of painting and installation art.
For more than a decade he taught Stage Crafts at Chapitô, the Professional School of Arts and Stage Crafts (EPAOE) in Lisbon.
Since 2007, he has given courses on Backdrop Painting at ACE Arts School in Oporto and Contemporary Scenic Design at Restart, Institute of Creative Arts and New Technologies in Lisbon. In addition, he teaches Drawing at António Arroio, a secondary school specialising in the arts in Lisbon.
In 2015 he co-founded Passevite together with the painter Mathieu Sodore and the designers Rui Lourenço and Daniel Nascimento. The atelier/gallery hosts an annual artistic programme as well as painting/drawing projects, artistic residences and site-specific installations.
