Jacinto Lucas Pires was born in Porto in 1974 and lives in Lisbon. He is a writer and a playwright. The True Actor (published in the US by Dzanc, translation by Jaime Braz and Dean Thomas Ellis) won the 2013 Domingos da Silva Teixeira Distinguished Literature Award for the best book published in Portugal in the past two years. Lucas Pires won the prestigious Prémio Europa/David Mourão-Ferreira (Bari University, Italy/Instituto Camões, Portugal) in 2008. Oração a que Faltam Joelhos [Prayer Lacking Any Knees], a novel, came out in 2020, in Portuguese (Porto Editora). Doutor Doente [Doctor Disease], a sto-ries collection, was published this year (by Húmus).
Jacinto Lucas Pires has written five novels, three short-story collections and two non-fiction books. He has written several the-ater plays, staged by different groups. Profecia do Príncipio do Mundo [Prophecy of the Beginning of the World], his latest play, will premiere on July 3, in Festival Os Bardos, Guarda, in a production by Escola do Largo, directed by Marcos Barbosa.
